After a stumble with Facebook, "Momo" posted on the forum:

I need to learn from my fall, and this past fall has taught me that I have to cancel my Facebook account. It's really a waste of time anyway. The only reason I've been keeping the account is to see what's new in my friend's lives, see new photos of their kids, and have all of their email addresses in one spot. So I'll be "out of the loop". I'll miss someone's birthday. I'll miss a cute photo of a kid smiling. …

Dear Guard your Eyes,

My husband is 30 years old and we've been married for 8 years. For the last 7 years (perhaps even longer, I don’t know) he's been a Lust addict. I've caught him with newspapers, with a magazine, on the internet, acting out, etc. There have been many ups and downs over the years (mostly downs) and I'm slowly reaching a point of despair. I am so full of questions and doubts, and most of all I have no-one to talk to. We recently started therapy with someone …

Practical Tips »

[9 Dec 2010 | No Comment | ]

GuardYourEyes uses a unique approach to help people, which recognizes that there are many different levels in the struggle for “Shmiras Ainayim” and “Shmiras Habris”. We have summarized, in a nut-shell, the suggestions that we found work best for strugglers at various levels.

A Few Important Notes:
1) The term “acting out” is used below to mean either viewing inappropriate material and/or masturbation. It also includes promiscuous or illicit relations, but, in the religious community, these behaviors should be generally treated as indicative of a more severe level of addiction.
2) Always start …

Uri (clean for 11 days) wrote on the forum:
I'm still clean, but barely holding on. I'm in a terrible mood and I'm having trouble getting hold of myself. I was so good this week, I feel like crying. When I drove home tonight I passed town and I felt such mixed feelings. I saw teens satisfying their lusts with no inhibitions. I felt angry that they could fill their needs while I sit and struggle to keep myself in check. They look so happy, while I feel so discontent.

Daily Dose of Dov

Dov is sober in SA for over 13 years. See his story here.

Someone wrote to Dov:

I recently fell after a clean period of 40 days, and it hurts. How can I finally beat this thing so that I never come back to it? I want to do a real, permanent Teshuva rather than having the difficulty to build till I just lose again!

Dov replies:

Don't kill me here please; the answer may not seem to make much sense, but here it is:

Recovery has to be worked one day …

Q & A »

[14 Jan 2010 | One Comment | ]

Question: MosheF asks:
I am part of a non-Jewish 12-Step SA fellowship. I wish there was a solution to the disease of addiction in yiddishkeit, but to the best of my knowledge there is none. There is hardly mention of the concept of addiction or a solution in chazal or mussar seforim. This begs for an explanation that I don't have.

Rabbi/Dr.Twersky responded to one such question here and he writes as follows: "Whereas forbidden lusful activity certainly occurred, I doubt that the phenomenon of lust addiction was ever brought to the attention of the authors …

The root of our spiritual illness is "self-centeredness". Living 'outwardly focused' has tremednous benefits to us and those around us, often beyond what we can imagine. Here's a beautiful true story that brings out this point.
The Cab Ride
I arrived at the address and honked the horn. After waiting a few minutes I walked to the door and knocked.. 'Just a minute', answered a frail, elderly voice. I could hear something being dragged across the floor.
After a long pause, the door opened. A small woman in her 90's stood before me. She was wearing a print dress …

Thank you HaShem! Here are my thoughts at 90 days. As R' Twerski put it in his beautiful article on Pesach, when one is freed spiritually, then he is thankful for every second of his freedom. GYE has made me realize that the concept of Kedusha and being part of a holy nation is not just an elusive idea for “holy” people. It is within our grasp. And for this I truly have to thank HaShem for having the Zechus of having my part in His Plan.
Contrast – Sometimes I think back …
